Hollywood Days - Carol-Ann Part 2

Pin It Now!

This is Part 2 of Carol-Ann Plante's Guest Post.

(my first commercial shoot…for Ross department stores…with Paul Walker.

Being on a television show is truly the easiest job. The hard part is landing the role. Then it’s all a breeze...at least for a teenager. They have a wardrobe department fit you for clothes and take you shopping. They have make up and hair people do you up to look ‘normal’ under all the set lights. You follow your script and work with the director on how to play out your scenes. There are so many people that go into a production, it’s amazing: from the prop guy who puts a can of soda in your purse so it has some weight to it, to the craft service guy who finds out that your favorite gum is Extra wintergreen, so it magically appears on set for you to enjoy.

(The wardrobe dept takes polaroids to document what you’re wearing in each scene. Robin was our costume designer)

Almost every weekend I would go to a charity event or a photo shoot. A lot of the kids would go to the same events, so most of us became friends that way. I think Saved by the Bell and 90210 were pretty popular then, so we ran into those kids pretty often. We would go to Children’s hospitals or call kids through “famous phone friends” just to chat. We would go to amusement parks and ski trips, usually sponsored by a charity to draw in people who wanted to hang out with someone from TV. I sang anthems at baseball games, songs at telethons, played tennis at celebrity tennis tournaments (and no one thought it was odd that I had NO idea how to play tennis!) It was quite an adventure and I was a very busy teenager.

(Troy Slatin and Jonathan Taylor Thomas)

(singing with Wendy and the girl from Small Wonder…that IS you on the left, right? Wendy's response: No that is not me. I was never that tall. But I do like your mom jeans. So good.)

(Wendy again: Carol-Ann, that is me on the far right.)

(magazine clipping from a charity event for Cystic Fibrosis)

After the show ended, I went on to graduate UCLA with an English Literature degree and I currently work in television as a line producer while balancing life as the ‘totally desperate mom’ of two little girls!

Yes, those were the good 'ol days of TV. For sure. And the child actors weren't so messed up . . . if I do say so myself.
