Why Kids Are Awesome

Pin It Now! ***Disclaimer - I am so thankful for post like these. Ones that I wrote months ago and not today. Because today was a mental breakdown day for me. Wanted to scream at the top of my lungs and put my kids on ebay (it's a joke people-relax. Don't call the blogging CPS on me). From whining, complaining, disobeying to slamming sister's fingers in doors, having hands down your pants while eating dinner, having temper tantrums about sippy cup preferences, and the like. Have you been there?

Now read on about happy thoughts:
Here are just a few things that my kids do or say right now that make me smile.
1. Elijah made this sign and posted it on his door. He clarified that it is $3 to enter his room if you are not a parent. And I just found out that he actually collected $3 from Lydia. I didn't even know she had $3, but apparently when we were on our marriage retreat the kids got some cash from Grandma. They're storing it in their rooms in tupperware. Thanks Grandma--Elijah's now a bookie and Lydia's getting taken advantage of. Her tupperware is now empty. For real. I love kids for their creativity.

2. I asked Jordis to help me take of my shoes the other day. She was so excited she could hardly function in her shoe removal skills. Now when I walk through the door she points to my shoes and with a huge smile says "Uh! Uh! Uh!' It's like a dog when you say, "Do you want to go on a walk?" I love kids for finding the joy in the simple things.

3. Lydia is always asking me to print out pictures for her on the computer so she can color them. Actually, it's as if she is pulling up to a drive-thru window and giving her order. It usually goes something like this "Mommy, can you print out 2 Snow Whites, 2 ponies, 1 Jasmine, 2 Belles, 1 Tiana, 1 Sleeping Beauty, 2 Cinderellas and that's it! And she expects me to remember precisely which ones she wants and how many. I love kids for mistakingly thinking that mom has a memory.

And I love kids. Most days.

Oh, those breakdown days are the worst. And they do happen, let me tell ya!

You are a good mom to take a breath and post on those sweet funny moments about the kids. Helps put things in perspective.

And, when all else fails, just put your feet up and eat something sweet and let them beat each other to a pulp. Whatev! (kidding...I'd only let them beat each other into crushed paper bags, not entirely into pulp)

I hope your day improved and that tomorrow is a fresh, fun-filled happy kid day! Oh, yeah baby!

I was thinking yesterday about when I was younger and had 3 kids, 3 and younger. And then they had this day called Mother's Day which we woke up thinking, oh we are going to be treated like royalty and everything is going to be wonderful today. I won't have to lift a finger and my kids will all be perfect...It is MOTHER'S DAY... :) But they weren't perfect and I still had to do everything and they still cried. What a disappointment that day could be. On Mother's Day, I don't let it be a disappointment. I cherish the fact that I still have a mother. I CHERISH the fact that I have four children, that I love more than life. I thank God every day that I am able to do everything for them even if they are bratty and crying... Okay, they are all grown and three are moved out now. But being a mother is what I have always been born to do. I know that God put me on this earth to "mother" these children and I just pray that I can do a good job at it. I love being a mom. On Mother's Day I don't stop because I love to do for my kids. It is what moms do. At the end of the day, Mother's Day might be a disappointment to some because they are not treated royally, but actually, I am always treated royally. I know my kids love me. And that is the best gift ever.

Oh my, I have had those days. Yikes.

I am past the sippy cup tantrums and are on to the 12 and 9 year-old sister dramas. So far NOTHING has been harder than being a mom of a 3 1/2 year old, though. I found 3 1/2 to be a really difficult time with both girls. The defiance! The unruliness! The screaming! The potty training nightmares! I will take the eye rolling "Whatever Mom" treatment over 3 1/2 any day.

But that's just me! I'm sure many moms enjoy the preschool years.

I enjoy your blog a lot. Hope your day improves!

Brian,
Do you also have polar bear and black smoke in your house?

Since we have been living at my parents the past month, I have had about 15 MBD's. Good times, good times.
