Hollywood Days - Remember Teddy Ruxpin?

Pin It Now!
If you are new to my blog, on Wednesdays I post about my experience in Hollywood as a former child/teen actress. If you want to start at the beginning of these posts go here. If you are old to my blog, I know I have been slacking on these posts. If you could send me some extra time in the mail I would be blogging more. But you know what they say, jogging before blogging. Can't do it all. But here's a new one!
-----
Do any of you remember Teddy Ruxpin? It was cutting edge back in the 80s. And when anything is cutting edge . . . another product has to come out to try and compete. Key word is try. Reality is fail. That's what I participated in. A Teddy Ruxpin knock-off fail. Well, they just paid me to do some dorky poses and be on the box of Smarty Bear. Does anyone remember Smarty Bear? Besides the one guy who posted a video of a Smarty Bear in action but calls it Teddy Ruxpin. The answer is no. Unless your brother was the guy on the box with me. Funny thing is, I am speaking at a retreat for Calvary Baptist Church in Concord next month. And guess who is the woman who initially contacted me to see if I could speak at the retreat? Smarty Bear guy's sister. Magic. I think this Smarty Bear thing is really gonna catch fire after I bring it to the retreat. The retreat's in Half Moon Bay October 19-21 if you want to come. Details here. Bring your Teddy Ruxpin.

I remember Teddy Ruxpin! My mom still has ours from when we were little. I do not remember Smarty Bear, as you predicted. Did Smarty Bear turn creepy when his batteries ran low? 'Cause Teddy Ruxpin sure did. Wish I could come to the retreat and bring him and all his creepiness, but alas I can't. Hope it goes well!!!

I do! My sister had a Smarty Bear and he'd supposedly answer questions. Funny story abt Smarty Bear...I was maybe 10 years old and around a holiday the electricity went out. My Nana starts praying something to the tune of "God, even though it's an inconvenience that the lights are out, we thank you." About that time Ole Smarty Bear pipes up with a doubtful "Ohhhh sure!" I've never forgotten that prayer or Smarty Bears response! FUN YOU WERE ON THE BOX! Maren @ www.trinketsofthought.com

I still have my Smarty Bear. Still works and talks etc. Box is in great shape. Love smarty bear. Has his glasses on. I cannot say if he was better or worse than Ruxpin, as I never had one of those when they came out they were to hard to get.
