I will trade you 20 random facts about myself for 20 random facts about you. Who are you people, anyway? (Hi Dad! You should do this on your blog since you only have one post and it's from 2008.)
Link up to your "20 Truths and No Lies" blog or just leave a really long comment with your truths.
1. My favorite show is So You Think You Can Dance.
2. I used to hate cats. Now I have two. Compromises of marriage. I like my cats.
3. My acting career began when I looked in the yellow pages and called a talent agent when I was nine years old.
4. My favorite book is Same Kind of Different as Me.
5. I don't like OPF (other people's feet) so don't ask me to rub yours. Unless you are my child and you are under the age of 10.
6. When I was about 11 I punched a kid in the back when we were in line at the water slide park because he was being a smart allic. So you probably shouldn't mess with me.
7. My husband and I eat popcorn (that he makes in the whirly pop) at least 3 times a week.
8. We don't have a microwave.
9. I love hot chocolate, but only good stuff. My favorite is from the Bittersweet Chocolate Cafe in Oakland.
10. We are off and on with cable television due to the cost. Right now we don't have it. We have a few shows we watch and use Hulu.
11. I am 5'1" and weigh 120 lbs -- give or take a few depending on the week. When I hear about women who are 5'9" and weigh 120 lbs I think Wow, that's nuts. They must have no nutrients. I don't think women should obsess about weight. Don't worry about the number on the scale. Don't aim for thin or skinny. Get healthy. Be fit. Accept your body type.
12. Some of my favorite movies are Dead Man Walking, Fletch, Dumb and Dumber, Juno, Blood Diamond and more recently . . . The Fighter.
13. I have never seen Gone with the Wind, The Godfather, There's Something About Mary or Crossroads.
14. I have never been one for exercise by DVD, but it has been really cold outside and I don't belong to a gym. Since Christmas I have been doing Insanity and I like it in a it's-kicking-my-butt kind of way.
15. Shiloh and I love to play cribbage and Settlers of Catan.
16. Shiloh and I met on a retreat with the college group of Bel Air Presbyterian when we were juniors at UCLA.
17. I have a lot of alcoholics in my family which plays a role in the fact that I don't drink alcohol. Never have.
18. Because of my acting career, I changed high school five times and did a lot of my schooling on set.
19. I self-published my book Totally Desperate Mom using the services of Winepress Publishing (professional editor/coach, design team, proofreaders, etc.) and did not submit it to any publishers or agents. I've been meaning to write a post about why I did that, but just haven't gotten to it yet.
20. I have thought about writing a book called I love Jesus and I Send my Kids to Public School.
How about you??? I would love to hear some truths about you and your life and your interests. I'm serious. Do we have anything in common? I would love to know about my virtual friends. And if I know you in real life . . . surprise me.

Truths no lies:
March 17th is my second birthday.
I grew up loving dogs hating cats. A college girlfriend got me a cat. Had a Siamese ever since. I was named after one of the last casualties of WW2. James Bernard. Met his parents in Sept '72. I didn't expect to be the last alive in my original family. I don't need faith to believe in God or heaven, I need it to believe he actually loves me. The first thing I ever bought my wife was a fake spider. Both my parents were sergeants in WW2. I play clarinet and have taught students but my first instrument was drums. I can milk a cow. I found out one week before college graduation that I was one credit shy. So I walked and got nothing finishing 3 months later.
1. I love that Shiloh's dad responded. :)
2. I HATE feet. They're gross.
3. I'm reading Same Kind of Different as Me right now. So good.
4. Matt and I love to play cribbage too. :)
Okay I'll get to work on my own random facts. Thanks for sharing yours, Wendy!
Yay for Shiloh's Dad. Thanks for sharing. So interesting - learned a lot of new stuff. A fake spider? That's good, she knew what she was getting into.
Tegan,
Can't wait to hear the rest. My friend is making Same Kind of Different as Me into a movie. Can't wait.
Okay, I linked up, but I was lazy & used my 111 Things about Mel from my blog that I wrote in 2008. But, all those things are still true, so that kinda counts, right? And, I have 111 things, so that is more fun than 20....right?
And, I hate feet also. GROSS!!!!!!
Cribbage Rules. Wendy & Mel can beat anyone! :)
great idea and I may post my 20.... but I loved hearing yours- love the same movies and although I do homeschool.... ahem... I still want to hear your reasons for why you don't! love your blog! (like always :)).
Rachel, my homeschooling friend,
One of these days maybe I will post about it. I am not against private or homeschool, but feel strongly (at least right now) that we are called to have our kids in public school. Let's have a movie night :)
If you wrote that book, I would buy it, read it, and probably cross my fingers that you'd give a seminar on it.
Much More Than a Mommy,
Good to know. One copy sold.

We don't have a microwave either. It's only a slight nuisance, but mostly it's a blessing. It has completely cut down on the amount of pure crap that I ate just because it was easy.
My hubby and I eat air-popped popcorn almost every day. Add in the zero calorie butter spray and it's a snack that I don't feel guilty about. Really, it doesn't even take as long as microwave popcorn (that I couldn't make even if I wanted to - no microwave).
Shiloh's Dad - the same thing happened to me in college! One silly credit. Ugh!
Love it Meghan. 8 when you met Adam? Crazy!!! I broke my collarbone in kindergarten!
Gun Diva,
Had popcorn tonight. And last night. And the night before . . . come on over.
Here's five, with some relative similarities:
1) I've liked cats since I fed a stray that wandered up to my grandparent's front door back in grade school. As an indirect result, I go a few miles out of my way (en route to work) to feed a couple of strays that somehow ended up living behind a gas station.
2) I've seen neither "The Godfather" nor "Gone With the Wind" all the way to completion. And being that I was born and raised in the South, that last one is considered an abomination.
3) My mom and her side of the family are from all over the South. Most of my father's family were based in California (Sunnyvale Mountain View, Palo Alto & San Jose -- "very South Bay").
4) Alcoholism has also been somewhat prevalent throughout my family's history. Aside from being a "social drinker" for a little while about 10 years ago, I almost never drink.
5) My writing prowess has been praised by friends over the years. Consequently I spent 11 months writing a 200-page screenplay that was ultimately stolen by the very people who introduced me to the project. It's been difficult to complete anything of note ever since.
I discovered your blog practically by accident, but it's been a blessing. Good luck with your writing and blossoming ministry.
I am not sure how I originally found your blog, but I have been following it for awhile. I also love Jesus and send my girl to public school and my DH is a YP.
Can I ask how you save money by having Internet but no cable? We have been trying to think of ways to cut back, but need to keep the internet b/c some days my DH works from home. Every which way we research it is only $10 cheaper a month to drop the cable from our triple play bill.
Here is how we save on cable (the scoop from my hubby)
We have naked dsl currently. $19.99/mo and I signed a 1 yr contract. No local phone required 6mb download speed so it is a little slower than cable modem but still plenty quick. You can also do $14.99/mo for 3mb download but for me the extra $5 was worth it for double the speed. We use our cell phones exclusively - no home phone anymore. We can catch tv shows on hulu.com and recently with netflix (free 1 month trial). Triple play is a pretty good deal for the first year when compared to normal rates. However, things get really expensive after that trial rate is up and we were not able to negotiate a lower rate immediately so we left the cable company for dsl. it's just way cheaper right now.
AMW - What does that stand for? Sweet story about cats!
"AMW" are my initials. Nothing fancy. Although I initially used my blog to write about whatever entered into my mind (politics, religion, etc.), I've expanded the general subject matter to keep the site fresh and, perhaps, a bit different from what one might expect from a typical Right Winger.
Feel free to click my profile, which links to the blog, and have a look around if you like. And best of luck in all your endeavors.
