Camping or a Nice Hotel?

Pin It Now! Friday we went camping with Elijah's cub scout pack. I had not been camping in about 10 years. In my heart I really want to be an outdoorsy camper girl. But this 24-hour stint confirmed that I would much rather be in a nice hotel than laying on the dirt. Now it's time for you to come clean. Or dirty. How about you?
Camper or hoteler?

The girls helped Dad set up the tent and then watched him finish it up.

The weather was perfect and the setting was beautiful and only 45 minutes from our house.

Lydia was pumped to go camping, but the fact that she had to plug her nose "because the garage smells" made me think she might not like the outhouses. That was definitely the worst part of the whole deal - outhouses.

Jordis was all set for camping (in Hollywood?) but crashed in the car before we got there.

The kids really liked the breakfast choices. A great way to start the day and prepare for a 3 1/2 mile hike and fantastic for those who are abstaining from sugar. I did bring some homemade sugar-free banana bread in anticipation of camping nutrition.

The scouts had a bunch of activities for the kids including a 3 1/2 mile poison oak excursion hike, tug-of-war, team building exercises, and soap carving. All three kids had a blast. I didn't hate it and as the girls get a little older (Jordis was the youngest camper there) I think it will be more enjoyable. Especially if there are flushable toilets. And room service.

Camping is so great for kids. We do it once a year, but we rent a RV because I am a hotel girl. I used to tent camp, but now I am high maintenance. : )

I'm more of a hotel kind of girl. My old aching body can't handle sleeping on the ground. It can hardly take it when I sit on the ground! lol

Once upon a time, when I was a little girl, my parents took us camping a few times. While I live in the country, I am not a tent camper type. :)

We camped in our backyard last year with the kids. Ummm....miserable. But at least I had a bathroom I could use. ;)

Dirt camping, all the way. Send the kids our way. :)

The idea of camping is very romantic to me (no clue why) but I'm a "hoteler" all the way. I like my modern amenities, thankyouverymuch. ;)

I'm glad you didn't hate it. I'm about 50/50 camping/hotel. If I go camping, I'm going all out - no outhouses, no people within sight, no nothing. But I do love the hot water and flushing toilets in hotels a whole lot, too.

My husband and children like to camp but I just don't get into it much. Looks like you all had great fun though!!

My kids love camping. I like camp. There's a huge difference. I like camp because of the organized games, speakers, & activities and sleeping in cabins while you aren't enjoying the great outdoors. Camp is a favorite... camping, not so much. :)

And I think I forgot to answer your question, but I'm in AG.

I am a room service girl myself. The problem with camping is the tent. Aside from the obvious, there is also the poor lighting, lack of closet space and no place to store my yummy smelling hair products that would no doubt attract critters.

no s'mores = no camping. how did you survive?!?

i make myself go camping-"take one for the team." my people like me a lot if i do, and then i can be all teachering "them in the way they should go" by my example of doing something for the sake of others.

hmmm, s'mores could help me give myself up for the sake of others in non-camping situations too... gonna remember that.
