The Real Happy Easter

Pin It Now!
The Easter Bunny. Yet another creepy holiday character whose lap you can sit on at the mall. "Hey kids, don't talk to strangers, but go crawl into the lap of some random dressed up like an old man with a white beard or a huge Bunny. And go ahead and take the candy they offer you." Then there is the chocolate, flowery dresses, colored eggs and bunnies. But what does all that have to do with the real meaning of Easter? As far as I can tell - nothing. We still participate in such things because... we like candy and presents.

However, today we celebrate the REAL meaning of Easter. It is essentially the crux of Christianity. If Christ did not raise from the dead our faith is worthless. I Corinthians 15:14 puts it this way, "And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith."

Whew! I am so glad that Christ DID rise from the dead. And what a difference He has made in my life since I welcomed Him to take it over about 20 years ago.

I Peter 1:3-9
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade-kept in heaven for you,
who through faith are shielded by God's power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.
In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials.
These have come so that your faith-of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire-may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

P.S. Just so you know - I made an attempt at getting my kids "dressed up" for Easter church. But Elijah decided to use his sleeve as a napkin and got red strawberry and bell pepper juice all over it before we left. No time to change it. I intended to change Lydia before we left, but she she napped late in the day. What I really mean is that after Shiloh put her in her room for her "nap" she came out of her room twice and then just went back in her room and played with toys. She finally went to sleep a half hour before we had to leave for church. Keep in mind she only naps a couple days a week now and she was due for one if you know what I mean. So we had to wake her up and put the little zombie into the car "as is." Of course she was wearing an outfit that she had picked out. Let's just say it was nothing closely resembling a "cute" or "matching" holiday outfit. However, I did manage to put Jordis in a really sweet outfit and even put little shoes on her.

That was ruined about 60 seconds after we got to church when she had a blow out pooper. Good thing I had a spare outfit in the diaper bag. Never mind that it was pajamas with Christmas trees on them. The one time I try to get my kids looking "cute" for church... good thing I don't care or I might have cried. Instead, I was pretty entertained by it all.

Okay that does sound funny. We were out of V-8 so I made him some bell pepper juice. No, not really.
He was eating juicy strawberries and juicy bell peppers. That would be a pretty good smoothie combo though, huh?

The egg part of all the Easter hoopla is actually legit. During the Medieval Times eggs were what was given up for during Lent. So when Easter Sunday came around people were fired up about having eggs...not so sure where red dye #7 enters the picture but the egg part is legit.
