Merry Christmas '08

Pin It Now!

Another year. Another Christmas blard (blog + card) from the Hagens. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE getting all your Christmas cards in the mail. It is one of my favorite parts of Christmas tradition. I just don't have the time, energy or money this year (again) to mail out Christmas cards. So you if you find yourself in a similar predicament, I would love to get a blard from you. And "elf yourself" and hallmark e-cards don't count. I want photos, personal stories and the like. Anyway, maybe finances (where is the government bailout for Realtors?) will change next year and babies will stop being in my womb . Actually, that's a fact. I shut the operation down about a month ago. No more baby mama. And as for adoption for in our future ... talk to me when I at least have two kids in school. Right now I cannot imagine sanely handling a fourth child.

In true Christmas blard fashion I will give you a summary of my adorable children who have learned to walk, talk, love hiking, sewing, long walks on the beach, etc. Some of this will be repetitive for my regular blog readers, but for others you might gain some new insight into the hoopla here. I will throw in some links to old blog posts (for the occasional drop-in blog readers) so you can catch up on some of the highlights if you want.

JORDIS:
She is the resident sweetheart. Born on July 25th , Jordis is our most obedient and compliant child. No talking back, no climbing on the furniture, no punking her siblings or "forgetting" what you asked her to do only moments before. Her only issue is having blow out poopers - up the back, down the side, staining outfits left and right. And she drools a lot. But it keeps the boys away so we are fine with that. She is a fat thighed, happy baby and we love her a ton.

LYDIA:
Our Snoogie is 2 1/2 years old and acts her age. She loves all things pink. At the grocery store she wants me to get anything that comes in a pink container. She loves pink ponies and pink princess punch. And she will tell you that when she is 5 she will get pink gum. But she is not your average princess. She talks pretty much talks non-stop and it is usually about events that have occurred weeks before - often leaving her audience quite confused. And she has a bit of a lisp and a Boston accent which adds to the excitement of a conversation with Lydia. She often will mention that when she is 4, Dad is going to take her to Mt. Diablo (because that is when he took Elijah) and that she went to San Francisco Beats (beach) because she has gone on many adventures to San Francisco . She is the stand-up comedian of the family. She loves to copy her big brother, which can be good (in prayers) and bad (in bad guys, killing people, etc.). She is excited for Christmas although she definitely does not get it. When we go places that have holiday decorations or have Christmas trees she bursts from the seams, "I see Christmas!"

ELIJAH:
Bright, full of laughter, sweet , sensitive , compassionate. Five years old next month. Still interested in Star Wars and The Hobbit, but currently obessesed with The Chronicles of Naria (his Dad is reading him the books - they are on book 7!) - especially the lion, Aslan. Elijah is extremely social and loves to have people over. Wants to invite the world to his birthday party next month. Thinks potty talk is hysterical. And will not be hired anytime soon as a fashion consultant.

SHILOH:
Despite his now famous nutrient comment , which made him a rock star amongst the boys, he is an awesome husband and incredible Dad. He is on year 2 of his Talmidim commitment and has grown more than I could have ever imagined. Talmidim is a discipleship group/curriculum that a pastor at a church in San Francisco created.
Last year he drove out to Redwood City every week for his Talmidim group, where Shiloh's roommate from APU , Scott faciliated the group. Each week there is 2-8 hours of homework - from the Bible, books, memorizing verses, etc. This year is he is leading 3 other guys through it at our house. God is at work. It is so awesome to watch. Shiloh is definitely Elijah's idol. One night Elijah said to me, "Mom, when I grow up who do you think I will have in my Talmidim group?" He learns Bible verses at school or church and then makes suggestions to Shiloh for his group. "Dad, don't you think this would be a good verse for your Talmidim to memorize?"

Shiloh is still working hard in real estate despite the tremendous slow down.

WENDY:
You know how people often name their children because of what the name means?" I found out today (from a quick google) that my name means "light skinned." And while this IS an accurate description of me ALL YEAR ROUND, I am thinking of changing my legal name. "Dr. Poop Face, Need Meeter, Referee." Because that best describes me these days. Who knew being a Mom could be this much work and yet so much fun ? Now that Jordis is 5 months old, I am having less MBD's (mental breakdown days). I pray everyday that God will help me to enjoy my kids (and I think that has helped a lot) because some days I just don't. And I know it won't be long before they are in school and I will be wishing I had 10 diapers a day to change. Okay, maybe I won't miss that part...Don't get me wrong. I LOVE being a mom. And I think my kids are wonderful. Sometimes it can just be overwhelming. And that my friends, is one of the reasons I so look forward to my "night off" when I take a hip hop class. And I hesitate to mention this because then I might actually have to do it - but I have started writing a book about motherhood entitled "Totally Desperate Mom." In my spare time.

Ahhh the beauty of the blard. You an send it out on Christmas Day and it will still arrive on time. We hope you have a wonderful Christmas celebrating the birth of Christ. May He bless you and give you HOPE everyday as you walk through life - in its triumphs, in its blessings, in its unexpected changes, in its uncertainty, in its disappointments, in its dirty diapers, in its challenges. Everyday God brings hope. Merry Christmas friends.

Psalm 25:4,5 "Show me the path where I should walk, O LORD; point out the right road for me to follow. Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me. All day long I put my hope in you."

I will be the first to comment: I think that was incredible. I like the special blurbs on each of you, that really is very special. Beautiful family, sweet little girls. That Elijah is something.

I love reading your blogs, and thoroughly enjoyed your "blard"! I was so glad to see you are writing a book about motherhood, because Wendy....I've always thought you should write a book or books! You have been blessed with a true gift. You could reach so many people with your wonderful wit and humor...not everyone is "blog" savvy! You give perspective when needed....and spiritual insight in just the right way. Your children are amazing. You have so much to share..believe me, I would be the first one to buy your book, and I would give it as a gift to many, many friends! Merry Christmas!! Love, Debbie

This is awesome. That last paragraph... wow. What I love about your writing is that you somehow verbalize thoughts and feelings that I have... but about 100 times better. Hope you Hagens had a great Christmas.
